Book Review | One Beats The Bush by Riall Nolan - The First in the Max Donovan Adventure Series

One Beats The Bush is a well-paced action thriller that ticks multiple boxes; page-turning twists, fight scenes, a lot of crime and, more importantly, a main character you cannot help but love. Vietnam veteran Max Donovan is in Bangkok, and very hungover, when his friend “Fat” Freddie Fields is arrested in San Francisco for the murder of an Australian diplomat. He knows his old buddy would never hurt a fly, so he rushes back to the Bay Area to help. Suspecting Freddie is being framed, Donovan tries to rustle up some cash to bail him out, but only succeeds in getting into trouble with the local mob.  He’ll have to solve the case on his own. Unfortunately, the only clue he has suggest the answer lies in the jungle-covered mountains of Papua New Guinea. Book Review | The Drift by C.J. Tudor - Unputdownable Masterpiece

The Drift was one of the releases in 2023 that I was most excited for and I am so happy to say it did not disappointment what-so-ever.

Survival can be murder…During a deadly snowstorm, Hannah awakens to carnage, all mangled metal and shattered glass. Evacuated from a secluded boarding school, her coach careered off the road, trapping her with a handful of survivors. Meg awakens to a gentle rocking. She’s in a cable car stranded high above snowy mountains, with five strangers and no memory of how they got on board. Carter is gazing out of the window of an isolated ski chalet that he and his companions call home. As their generator begins to waver in the storm, the threat of something lurking in the chalet’s depths looms larger. Outside, the storm rages. Inside one group, a killer lurks. But which one? And who will make it out alive?

The Drift is written from the perspective of three different characters, each telling the story of the disaster they are stuck in. As the stories unravel, secrets are revealed and everyone’s true characters are shown. I love reading books that are mutli-narrative, if done correctly it adds a different kind of dimension and layer to the overall plot. And, not like I had any doubts, Tudor pulled this off amazingly.

I was first introduced to C.J. Tudor in 2022 and I instantly fell in love with Tudors ability to keep me hooked, and The Drift was no exception. The Drift is an unputdownable, suspenseful thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Tudor is the master of leaving chapters with little cliffhangers which force you to read on without even realising - before I knew it I had read 100 pages, and within 24 hours I was finished.

If there is one book I think everyone should read in 2023 it is The Drift. Unbelievably enjoyable from the first page until the very last! More information and to pre-order from independent booksellers click the following link: pre-order here.
